Tuff Shed – Halloween Party

I knew back in 2019 when we got our Tuff Shed that we would get a lot of use out of it.  I imagined a small group of girlfriends chatting in front of the fireplace, drinking wine, laughing, all while the kids played on the trampoline.  I envisioned snuggly movie nights cuddled up in the loft bed.  Even big events where we needed space to make Christmas wreaths.  And believe me, we have absolutely used the shed for all of those events, but this past weekend we used it in a way I never imagined!

These past 18 months have been very hard.  Whether you’re anxious about Covid or one that refuses to let it impact you, socially most people have been limited.  In my family, we were very cautious.  (No judgments here no matter what your opinion).  My in-laws that we see a lot have comorbidities that we felt a responsibility to be cautious against impacting.  So, with that written, we had to cancel the girls’ birthday parties, Daggmas (my hubby before marrying me was kind of an obnoxious jock and named his Christmas party after himself.  The name has stuck), and essentially all big gatherings.

Now that we’re all vaccinated and are feeling a bit safer, I wanted to throw a bash for my girls.  And to me, that means horses and a petting zoo.  Yes, overkill but fun.  I explained to Rob that this was the last year the girls will be light enough to ride the horses, so we essentially had to do it.  Right???!?!?!  And the petting zoo was only $50 more so it was a steal.  Right?!?!?!?!

Inevitably, as the big day approached, the weather had to be rainy.  My original plan to have the animals outside was nixed.  They needed shelter.  And of course, the guests had to be out of the rain as well!  Thank goodness we had the Tuff Shed.

Rob and I put together a borrowed tent in front of the shed, a few more in the patio area, and a couple of outdoor umbrellas and we were good!  The animal cage was set up in front of the shed and guests were able to pet them and then hang out in the shed to get warm.  It was so convenient having this versatile space so that people could be comfortable and dry, while still outside(ish).

Yet again, I am so thankful to the amazing guys at Tuff Shed.  This shed, which is big enough to be considered a small barn almost, saved the day.  Our girls had a blast, the bad weather wasn’t an issue, and the only casualty were my poor ferns that Mr. Llama ate within the first minute!  They never stood a chance.

Happy Halloween!!!

Those ferns never stood a chance with this guy! 😉

Equilibria Favorites

Hey friends,

For so many reasons I don’t understand, these past few months have been really hard. I’ve had so much anxiety. I’m not sure if it’s the girls going back to in-person school, all of us spending more time in public spaces, or simply being scared for my girls who are growing up so fast!

My doctor said he worried about people with anxiety, like myself, who will have a harder time emerging from Covid quarantining. We are the ones who have a hard time believing it’s back-to-normal now (or at least normalish). It has definitely been a struggle to stop worrying.

What has helped me the most is Equilibria. Really it has been a game-changer for my anxiety and overall well-being. It helps relax my mind and body whenever I feel tension or my heart begins to race. Honestly, Equilibria has gotten me through these months and I don’t know where I’d be without it. I wouldn’t support the brand if it truly hasn’t been a blessing.

Click HERE for the list of Equilibria products that have helped me. (I listed everything below if that’s easier) Additionally, I’ve included other goodies that you will enjoy. Equilibria is also a free mystery mini Daily Drop with any purchase $75+ purchase the month of October! New customers use code KINDRED VINTAGE for 15% off your purchase.

  1. Daily Treatment Oil: This Daily Treatment Oil is just the best! I love using this before bed right after I wash my face. It smells sweet and citrusy and helps me relax before bed. It feels very nourishing on my skin, and you can use it on your body too! Love this in my nighttime routine.
  2. Daily Soft Gels: These Daily Soft Gels are actually part of my daily routine. Seriously, it simply sets me up for a good day – if you can understand what I mean.
  3. Mindful Mineral Soak: If you need some relaxation, this soak is heaven.
  4. Daily Gummies: These gummies are so helpful when my anxiety ramps up. They last a long time and just help to balance me.
  5. Daily Drops: Daily Drops are also helpful for high anxiety days. They’re faster acting than the gummies so I keep these with me at all times.

Today, I rounded up some favorite holiday decor from one of my favorite stores – Anthropologie! I wanted to share some items you’ll be seeing this year in our home before they’re sold out, which is what usually happens when I begin sharing photos of them actually IN our home. 🤩

Now here I am kicking off my first-holiday pic with is a pic of our first Christmas here! We moved in November 18th, 2018 and I was determined to make at least one room cozy for the season. So I used what we had, painted the fireplace, and got to work decorating.

Enjoy!

Outdoor Entertaining With Arhaus

It may seem like the end of summer, but we have a few weeks left! Our sunken patio is our absolute favorite spot to hang out during the summer months and this year it got a refresh with Arhaus! We’re definitely going to embrace these last weeks of warmth, but also I’m secretly excited for fall hangouts and the cooler weather here. ◡̈

Our sunken patio is pretty large and one of my favorite things is to section it off to create multiple nooks! The patio is located off of our basement, which if you don’t know, hosts our second kitchen, which we use when we have guests over or simply for the convenience when we’re hanging outside. When we have drinks and food downstairs we bring them out to the sunken patio and get to use our Arhaus table and chairs. This dining set is perfect for our space and conveniently located right outside this downstairs kitchen.

I’ve also created a couple of lounging spaces in the main part of the patio. One is where we have our couch and fire pit, and the other is where our Porto Chaise Loungers live. Both are perfectly comfortable, but one is for sunbathing or chatting with a friend, the other is to gather with the family over some smores and fireside chats.

Another outdoor space we don’t speak to as much is our deck off of our main kitchen. This space is a project in the works, but I couldn’t help but furnish it with this beautiful Arhaus set. We see this view all the time as it is right outside of our big kitchen windows.

I really adore these spaces as this is where community grows and our family bonds. I cannot wait for the changing seasons and switching up these spaces for the seasons. ◡̈

Creating a Cozy Sleeping Retreat

It’s already the end of August and it feels like this summer flew by! I can’t believe the girls are already back in school and it’s almost time for Fall festivities. With the cooler weather creeping around the corner (ya never know in Chicago) one of our favorite places to cozy up is in our Tuff Shed! If you’ve been following along, you have seen some different ways we love to use this space, but one of my very favorite things about our Tuff Shed is the loft we created inside!

The loft has been converted into a cozy sleeping retreat and we couldn’t be more obsessed with this space. I am a firm believer in making your bedroom a retreat, somewhere you can rest and relax, and escape from the busyness of the day. We have put a lot of love into our girls’ bedroom (and now as requested by them, working on giving them each their own room) as well as made our master bedroom a place we love to lay our heads at night. This all said the Tuff Shed needed the same cozy peaceful vibe!

In order to create this space, I knew I wanted the loft. The grand height of our Tuff Shed allowed for this, and I always envisioned this as a sleeping retreat. We added texture to the walls and ceiling by adding shiplap and painted everything white. Of course, lighting is key to create a great environment, so we included two chandeliers hanging in front of the loft that also dim to create a moody vibe.

When it came to decorating the loft for our cozy sleeping retreat, we used a queen mattress, which was the perfect fit, added comfortable pillows, velvet bedding, nightstands, and lamps, and sprinkled it with some books, extra blankets, a diffuser, and some little wall hangings (and maybe have switched it up a couple of times ◡̈ ). We wanted the space to feel extra cozy for our girls, or guests, whoever may be up there for the night, or even to hang out and watch a movie on our projector. (This is one of our favorite things!)

Tuff Shed did a wonderful job building out our dream loft and with their labor and my vision, our cozy sleeping retreat came to life! We can’t wait to snuggle up for more movie nights and even spend a night or two. ◡̈

A Library Refresh with Castlery

If you’ve been following along on Instagram, you know I’ve been working on our library refresh. Our library shelves host all of my creative ideas, but we also needed cozy seating to enjoy the library and the new view! I want to introduce to you a brand, Castlery, an online furniture retailer focusing on quality designer styles ranging from mid-century to contemporary, offered at a competitive price. Some things I love about them is that they’ll send out fabric swatches for you to try, their flat rate shipping, 14-day return policy, and their warranty coverage. All around a great company with amazing products!

Excited to show you more of how we styled our space with this Pebble Loveseat! Some features I adore most are the curved structure, the deep seats, and how sturdy yet cozy it is to fall back on and read a book!

Another piece I LOVE is the stunning Cammy Arm Chair in the dusty rose pink! I used it in a bedroom at the country cottage and it’s amazing! The high back is so supportive and it is soft and comfortable!
